Trinitycore Series: A Step-by-Step Illustrated Tutorial on Changing NPCBot Names to Chinese

Article Abstract
After setting up and integrating NPCBot on the TrinityCore 3.3.5 server, players can achieve Chinese naming for bots by modifying the database. The operation requires first querying the target NPCBot's race, class, and ID using the .npcbot lookup command, and then modifying the name field of the corresponding record in the creature_template table of the world database, which will take effect after restarting the server. This solution solves the compatibility issue between English naming and the Chinese environment, but note that the modification should be done before hiring, otherwise the client cache needs to be cleared. This tutorial belongs to the TrinityCore series of technical practices and is suitable for World of Warcraft private server customization needs.

In the previous article, we set up the server side of TrinityCore 3.3.5 (see article:TrinityCore Series: World of Warcraft TrinityCore 3.3.5 (24011) Server Setup Guide for Dummies), and added npcbot (see article:TrinityCore Series: Adding npcbots to version 3.3.5 (24011)), at this point you can actually start your adventure with npcbot (npcbot will keep the same level as you, so it won't affect the leveling experience).

However, the only fly in the ointment is that these npcbots all have English names, which looks very awkward, so you need to manually modify the English names of the npcbots to Chinese names (for example, if you were unhappy with some WoW buddies in the past, you can change the npcbot to their name and punish them to work as unpaid laborers~).

The operation is actually very simple, just follow the steps below.

First determine the race, class, and name of the npcbot you want to hire

Although TrinityCore 3.3.5 can enable cross-faction trading and running dungeons together, for npcbots, it is still best to be in the same faction (you will know why when you encounter dungeon bosses that are Alliance or Horde).

First use .npcbot lookup [class id] to query the ID, name, and race of the online npcbot of that class, for example, 2 is Paladin, as shown below:

image.png

In the image above, 70051-70057 are the IDs of the online Paladin npcbots, the white text is the NPC's name, and the yellow text after it represents the race, such as Human for human, Dwarf for dwarf.

.npcbot lookup example usage:
.npcbot lookup 1 (list all Warriors)
.npcbot lookup 2 (list all Paladins)
.npcbot lookup 3 (list all Hunters)
.npcbot lookup 4 (list all Rogues)
.npcbot lookup 5 (list all Priests)
.npcbot lookup 6 (list all Death Knights)
.npcbot lookup 7 (list all Shamans)
.npcbot lookup 8 (list all Mages)
.npcbot lookup 9 (list all Warlocks)
.npcb loo 11 (list all Druids)

Race English-Chinese comparison:
1: Human Human
2: Orc Orc
3: Dwarf Dwarf
4: Night Elf Night Elf
5: Undead Undead
6: Tauren Tauren
7: Gnome Gnome
8: Troll Troll
10: Blood Elf Blood Elf
11: Draenei Draenei

Modify the ”creature_template” table under the ”world” database

There are many ways to modify the database. I am used to using DBeaver, you can choose according to your own habits, phpMyAdmin is also fine, and the command line works too. Here I will use phpMyAdmin as an example, demonstrating by modifying the original English name ”Sammuel” of the Human Paladin with ID 70051 to ”Miao Pi Pi”.

Finally, click the ”Execute” button in the red box below.

Restart the server
After restarting the server, run the command again: .npcbot lookup 2

It has been successfully modified.

Note: Try to make this modification before hiring the npcbot. If you want to modify the name of an already hired npcbot, after performing the above operations, you need to clear the client's own cache, otherwise you will find that no matter how you modify the database, it won't take effect~~~ This really tripped me up for a long time back then.
